Bring a Smile to a Child Year-Round by Giving to “Christmas in July”
More than 80,000 children of all ages are patients at Wolfson Children’s Hospital each year because illness or injury has interrupted their lives and the lives of their families. Toys offer children comfort by normalizing the hospital experience, and this soothing play helps them come out of their shell. Toys also help parents interact with their children and offer moments of fun and distraction.
In a Nutshell: How You Can Help
The Child Life team at Wolfson Children’s Hospital provides emotional support and fun activities for children during hospital stays. That includes making sure there are enough toys and games to go around for all of our patients to enjoy. Toy supplies run low in the summer, which is why we hold our annual Toy Drive in July to collect new, unwrapped toys to help restock. Our fourth Christmas in July is coming up on Friday, July 24, 2015.
Toys we collect or purchase with your donation will go in our playrooms, our Wolfson Children’s Emergency Centers in Jacksonville and Clay County, our teen rooms, and to help hospitalized children celebrate birthdays and other special occasions throughout the year. See our Wish List for ideas of what kinds of toys we need.
If you have a special place in your heart for children with special needs, you can make a financial contribution. These funds are used year-round by our Child Life Department to purchase developmentally appropriate toys for children with special needs. These donations also are used to buy games, art supplies and more for infants and teens – two age groups who receive fewer gifts during the year but who still need fun and entertainment during their stay.
Unable to Make a Toy Drop-Off Because Summer is Nuts?
Summer is a busy time but you can still help even if you can’t find a crack in your schedule to drop off your toy donation. For your convenience, you can donate online. A monetary donation will allow our Child Life staff to purchase toys, art supplies, games and more for patients with the most need. Click on the Donate Now button on the right.
On behalf of the children you help, thank you for your generous spirit!
